What Is a Spa Safety Certificate?

A Spa Safety Certificate (Form 23) confirms that your spa’s barrier meets current safety standards. Once compliance is confirmed, we issue the certificate for submission to your local council. This certificate is valid for four years and must be renewed regularly to maintain compliance.

Who Needs a Spa Certificate?

A certificate is required if your spa:

Holds more than 300mm of water
Is not emptied immediately after use
Is installed in a private home, rental property, hotel, motel, caravan park, or shared commercial space

This includes:

Built-in spa baths with permanent water
Outdoor spas and spa pools
Relocatable spas
Indoor spas used regularly

Spa Barrier Compliance Inspection – $299

We inspect your spa’s barrier to ensure it:

Prevents unsupervised access
Has a self-closing and self-latching gate
Is free from climbable hazards within the non-climbable zone
Complies with minimum height and spacing requirements
Meets access and visibility guidelines for latches and gate openings

If all standards are met, we issue your Form 23 Spa Safety Certificate.

Compliance Report (if issues are found)

If your spa enclosure is not compliant, we’ll provide a detailed report outlining:

All areas requiring adjustment
Clear instructions with photographs
Practical steps for compliance
A timeline for re-inspection (60 days)

Re-Inspection – $180

Once all adjustments are made, a second inspection can be booked. If the barrier now meets requirements, we’ll issue your Form 23 certificate.
